Canadian rugby sevens men win twice to advance to Cup quarterfinals in London
LONDON — Harry Jones scored his 100th try in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and Canada defeated Samoa and Russia on Saturday to advance to the Cup quarter-finals at the London Sevens.
It marks just the second time in nine tournaments this season that the Canadian men have reached the final eight.
Jones scored his landmark try in a 17-7 loss to No. 2 South Africa that was sandwiched between the wins over No. 9 Samoa and No. 15 Russia at Twickenham.
Canada, which currently stands 11th in the season standings, will play red-hot Fiji on Sunday. The Pacific Islanders top the table after winning four of the last five tournaments.
