Manners rink to represent Saskatchewan at the Brier

It was a game to remember on Sunday for Lloydminster's Scott Manners and his rink when they beat out former champion Bruce Korte to win the 2012 SaskTel Men’s Tankard curling provincial finals.

Manners’ rink curls out of the Battlefords Curling Club, and includes lead Mike Armstrong, second Ryan Deis and third Riley Lang. It will be home turf for Armstrong and Lang when they represent Saskatchewan at the Tim Horton’s Brier on March 3 to 11 in Saskatoon.

Manners said the final game was very exciting start to finish.

“It was a bit of a struggle to win because that Bruce Korte team is a very good team,” Manners said crediting his opponents who won last year.

Going to the Brier is something he has dreamed about since high school.

“It’s a dream come true for me,” Manners said. “The first Brier I went to was in 1989, I was in high school. I knew from watching those players then that was something that I wanted to create in my own life.”

Manners and his rink were ranked in twelfth place heading into the Tankard and being an underdog team suits them just fine heading to the Brier.

“We are a major underdog and we were in provincials so let’s see how that works for us in the Brier,” Manners said.
