‘Two Miles for Mary’ radiothon raises nearly $20,000
An annual fundraiser that’s taken place for nearly 40 years will help ensure a senior’s transportation service continues in the city.
The 37th annual ‘Two Miles for Mary’ radiothon took place on 900 CKBI Friday morning and managed to raise a total of $19,733 with more donations still coming in.
The program, offered by the Community Service Centre, is considered a lifeline of independence for many seniors since it offers affordable flat rates so senior’s can attend medical appointments, run errands or attend social gatherings. The program is well utilized and sees ever growing demand.
Kayla Pollock, fundraiser organizer, said, “We have many passengers that rely on our services to provide them the quality of life and independence that they need. I know last year we did over 6,000 trips from July 2023 to June 2024 and that was including our medical charter trips that take people to Saskatoon.”
