One Prince Albert doctor who has a love of football (aka soccer) helped Team Canada get on the scoreboard during a recent competition in Australia.

Dr. Nnamdi Ndubuka, is the medical health officer for the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority and took time to indulge his love of the sport while also being part of a symposium on health and sport in Australia.

He told paNOW in February after he was selected to be part of the team that children growing up in Nigeria play football from a very young age.

The Canadians played six games in the over-45 Vogel division, taking on Australia, Ireland, Catalonia and Mexico, with a 4-1-1 record.

They also played the mixed international team, and this is when Ndubuka put the ball in the net for his team.

This was the first year Canada also fielded a woman’s team, which played against Panama, Mixed International, New Zealand, Brazil and Australia, also finishing with a 4-1-1 record.

While not on the field, physicians in the conference attended presentations from other doctors from Canada and around the world.

The conference, which happened in Australia’s Sunshine Coast, had a theme of “Uniting the world in sports, science and peace.”

The next competition will be held in Dublin, Ireland from July 5-12, 2025 .
