Man accused of attempted murder awaits possibility of trial

Aug 1, 2024 | 4:41 PM

A violent incident last fall in Prince Albert’s Crescent Heights area, in which a person was shot and a vehicle crashed into a power pole, could be getting closer to trial.

Kye Rees, who was charged with attempted murder and a number of firearms related offences, has a preliminary hearing date secured for March 3, 2025.

That’s when the court will hear the Crown’s evidence and determine if there’s enough to commit the case for trial.

On Nov. 19, 2023, Prince Albert Police were called to an area on 22nd Street East near Cooke Municipal Golf Course for a single-vehicle collision.

As a result of the vehicle hitting a power pole, five people were sent to hospital with various injuries. At the same time, the 22-year-old driver was later taken to Regina via STARS Air Ambulance with serious injuries.

Further investigation found that a second vehicle was involved and that occupants of that vehicle opened fire, injuring one person. Rees was arrested last April in Moosomin.

A woman charged with obstruction of justice, will face trial on Nov. 3 at provincial court.
