Iris Prokopie, the 83-year-old woman who had been hospitalized following a collision near the Petro Canada gas station almost two weeks ago has died, Prince Albert Police and her family have confirmed.

Police also said that the charges against 22-year-old Bernard McCallum have been upgraded to dangerous driving causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Prokopie was driving a four-door sedan around 3 p.m. on June 11 when it collided with a pickup truck, alleged to be operated by McCallum.

She was on 6th Avenue, attempting to turn east onto 22nd Street when her car was “struck at a high rate of speed by the northbound truck”, according to PAPS.

Her family members confirmed to paNOW on June 20 that Prokopie passed away in a Saskatoon hospital.

McCallum was released on bail on his first court date on June 12 and is expected back in Prince Albert Provincial Court on July 4.
