Prince Albert’s Luke Huddlestone is taking his talents to the Queen City.

Earlier this week, it was announced that the basketball star has made his future clear by committing to the University of Regina. He said he’s excited to get going with his new teammates, coaches, and surroundings.

“I’m very excited to play for Coach [Steve] Burrows and to be a part of the program he’s created in Regina,” said Huddlestone. “I’m already moved in. Practices start up on Monday and I’ve already got the chance to get to know some of the guys here.”

The Carlton graduate averaged 27 points in his senior season while leading the Crusaders to back-to-back 5A regional titles in 2022 and 2023. He is the first person from Prince Albert to play basketball at the U of R since Dean Lato did so in the 1988-89 season.

Since moving onto the next step of his basketball career, Huddlestone took some time to reflect on his experience donning the Carlton red and gold.

“I had a great experience at Carlton playing under Coach [Tom] Hazzard,” he said. “He gave me the green light to show the player that I am and to show everyone who I am. We also went to HOOPLA, Carlton hadn’t been there in forever so that was a fun experience.”

Huddlestone and the U of R Cougars will play their first game of the new season in Montreal against the University of New Brunswick Reds while at the Concordia Classic tournament.
