An 18-year-old man has been charged with the killing of Ponch Bird, who died after being shot in an altercation at a homeless camp in Prince Albert on July 22.

Garrisen Clarke has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, and discharging a gun at a second victim.

Loni McCuaig, age 36, is also charged assault with a weapon in connection with the same incident and was arrested on Aug. 8.

She has made her first court appearance and is out on bail.

Witnesses told paNOW two days after the incident that a person had been seeking refuge at the camp but had been scamming some of the other residents.

Bird served as a protector to some of the residents and one person ran behind him and hid.

Moments later, he was shot and killed.

Clarke was in court on Friday morning and details of whether he was remanded were not available prior to publication.
