Trial delayed for accused in Muskoday standoff

A trial that was to happen yesterday in Prince Albert Provincial Court has been delayed after witnesses were not present.

Colton Lafond will back in front of a judge on September 1 for trial on another matter and will have a new date set for the trial that should have happened yesterday.

Police officers attempted to serve subpoenas on two witnesses on multiple occasions but did not find them at any of the locations they looked.

Lafond was charged in January after Prince Albert RCMP were called to a robbery on the Muskoday first nation.

Police dogs and the critical incident response team searched for suspects in the robbery.

Waylon Daniels was arrested at a home in the community and Lafond was charged in connection shortly afterwards.

Both men face charges from other incidents, including a standoff with police in Prince Albert on Branion Drive in March that saw an attempted murder charge added to the list against Lafond.

Additional recent charges from Saskatoon have both men charged with the attempted murder of a 15 year old girl on a street.

The girl was shot by someone in a passing vehicle and taken to hospital where she was treated and later released.
