Nipawin mayor by-election set for October

Voters in Nipawin will held to the by-election polls on October 18 to choose a new mayor, following the resignation of Rennie Harper last month.

Nominations start on August 29 and will be open until September 13 at 4 p.m.

Harper resigned in July, having held the post since the 2016 general election and just before town council was to receive a report commissioned into her conduct as mayor.

The resignation prompted the town to say the results would be kept private as she was no longer with the municipality.

Several people have told northeastNOW they are interested in running for the position. More will follow as candidacy papers are filed.

Shortly after Harper tendered her resignation, CAO Joel Cardinal had his contract terminated just six months after starting the job.

The Chamber of Commerce will hold a candidate forum on October 11 from 6 to 8 pm at the seniors hall.
