Last Hurrah

Final Charlie’s Angels Ladies Golf Tourney hoping to raise $25K for P.A.’s SPCA

The organizers of the Charlie’s Angels ladies’ golf tournament are hoping for a great last hurrah.

This is because the 10th annual fundraiser will most likely be the final edition.

“We’re all getting older. We make it look easy but there’s a lot of work to have a golf tournament,” Holly Abrey-Hare, one of the tournament’s fundraisers, said.

It was originally created to honour their friend Charlene, better known as Charlie, who passed away from cancer. Abrey-Hare said Charlie definitely had the personality of the angels from the hit TV series and movies.

“She was a spirit, that’s for sure. She was so creative, so witty, so fun-loving… she was an angel,” she said.

Despite sharing the same name as the franchise, it was actually named in honour of Charlie and her fur babies, also known as her angels. That’s also why her friends decided to donate all the funds raised to the Prince Albert SPCA.

The first nine events were able to raise roughly $139,000. They also collected nine truckloads of gifts for the animals.

Abrey-Hare said the hope for this tournament was to raise around $25,000.

“I know that’s a lofty goal, especially in these hard times with people having to pinch their pennies to put food on their own plates,” she explained. “It’s a lofty goal but any amount, the SPCA is always grateful for.”

There will be different fundraisers happening during and after the tournament including multiple auctions and a 50/50 draw.

Meanwhile, it’s once again being held at Mark’s Nine Golf and Country Club on July 15, 2023.

It’s set to start at 11 a.m. with food and prizes being handed out afterward. The SPCA is also planning to bring over some of their animals to properly thank those who participated and donated.

As of Monday, there were some spots still available for those wanting to take part. Anyone interested is asked to call Mark’s Nine Golf and Country Club.
