A local business and first responders came together to support the Prince Albert Food Bank and its growing demand.

“Cram The Cruiser”, an annual event held at the P.A. Superstore took place in the store parking lot on Friday.

All food donations as well as items like baby formula were placed into either a police cruiser, a fire truck or the food bank van.

Kim Scrubee, the Executive Director for the Food Bank was extremely grateful for the support from Superstore, the fire department and the Prince Albert Police.

While a final number in terms of donations and funds is still to be determined, Scrubee said that by the midafternoon, they already exceeded last year’s totals.

“There’s probably about 400 pounds of food, and it looks like we’ve actually exceeded that already,” he said, adding the donations come at a critical time for the food bank.

“You’re seeing a lot more traffic come in. Our numbers are growing up monthly. Last year, in meal equivalents, we did 112,000.”

One of the Asset Protection Managers at Superstore hopes the event will continue throughout the years, adding they’re already planning another “Cram The Cruiser” for September.

She said she was grateful that the community came out to support the food bank.

“I think it’s great for our community,” she said. “It shows everyone coming out here to actually help support us. Everything is going back to the community.”
