Former billet family ecstatic to share AHL championship celebration with Protas
Former Prince Albert Raider Aliaksei Protas won a WHL championship in a game seven overtime thriller in 2019. He’s now done the same in the AHL with the Hershey Bears. Both times, he shared the championship with a family that’s very special to him in Prince Albert.
The Pagé family, who billeted Protas in his two seasons in Prince Albert, were eagerly watching last night as Protas’s Bears took down the Coachella Valley Firebirds 3-2 in the seventh game of the Calder Cup final. Protas picked up an assist in the game.
“It was absolutely incredible,” said Kim Pagé, former billet mom to Protas. “It was only a few years ago we got to see him do it in Prince Albert his first year here. So watching him do it in game seven in overtime was absolutely surreal.”
The parallels between Protas’s two championships were not lost on Pagé, who was thinking of his last game seven when overtime against the Firebirds began.
