Trial run of city bus to Little Red River Park starts next month

By the middle of July, people will be able to take a bus from the downtown transfer station in Prince Albert to Little Red River Park.

On Monday, council approved a two-month test to see how the idea works, with the first day slated to be July 17, the same day as the new Rotary Adventure Park will be open.

Mayor Greg Dionne said he also liked Councillor Blake Edward’s point that people use the park in the winter too.

“There’s lots of people that go out there to snowboard and ski in the winter, so that’s another thing I put on my list to look at,” he said.

The bus is scheduled to run every 30 minutes on weekdays, starting at 11:45 am and ending at 7:45. On Saturdays, the bus should start its route at 9:45 in the morning and be done for the day at 5:15, also running every half hour.

No Sunday service is planned. The trial will cost $48,000 with money coming from a grant.

Little Red River Park is a major attraction, according to city staff and it helps make Prince Albert rank first in all of Canada for park space.

The Rotary Adventure Park includes multiple zip lines, more walking trails and the bridges have been improved.

The contract to build, supply and install a year-round washroom was given to The Container Guy Ltd for about $125,000.

The Container Guy is based in Saskatoon and would use a converted, insulated sea can to create two fully accessible washrooms plus storage space right next to the ski hill.

That project is also scheduled for 2023.
