School divisions across Saskatchewan are getting funding to help with the growing number of students.

The province announced on Thursday they were providing an additional $40 million with half being given to addressing school enrolment growth, while the other half will be used to hire additional staff.

“This additional $40 million in funding will help address a rapidly growing student population as well as ensuring that our teachers have the supports they need to support an increasingly complex classroom,” said Dustin Duncan, Saskatchewan’s Education Minister. “This 4.5 per cent increase in school operating when compared to last year is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring students all across the province have access to high-quality education.”

This new funding brings the total investment for the 2023/24 school year to $2.08 billion, which the province said is a new record.

Prince Albert

The Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division (Sask Rivers) is getting roughly $950,000, while the Prince Albert Catholic School Division (PACSD) is getting just under $290,000.

The funding for both school divisions is just for hiring additional staff.

Battlefords

The Living Sky School Division (Living Sky) is getting over $1.3 million. Around $718,000 will be used on enrolment growth, while the remaining funds will help hire more staff.

Over $183,000 is being given to Light of Christ which will also help them bring in additional employees.

Northeast

The Horizon School Division (HSD) is getting a sizeable cheque of around $1.28 million. Nearly two-thirds will be used to hire staff.

The North East School Division (NESD) will receive over $700,000 with roughly $490,000 being used on new support workers.

Lloydminster

The Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) will get nearly $460,000, while the Lloydminster Catholic School Division (LCSD) is looking at around $375,000.

Each received funding to hire staff and to address enrolment growth.

Northern Saskatchewan

The Northern Lights School Division (Northern Lights), which encompasses the vast majority of northern Saskatchewan, is looking at over $1.5 million.

Around $248,000 is being given to the Creighton School Division. Ile a la Crosse School Division is set to receive the lowest amount amongst all the school divisions at just over $114,000.

As for the Northwest School Division (NWSD), it’s getting around $531,000.

Ile a la Crosse and the NWSD are only getting funding to help hire additional employees.

Other School Divisions

The Prairie Spirit School Division (Prairie Spirit), which covers Mistawasis, Beardy’s & Okemasis, and Duck Lake, is getting over $2 million. This is because the division also covers Saskatoon.

As for the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF), it’s receiving around $642,000.
