Lacrosse season kicks into high gear after successful tournament in P.A.

The Prince Albert Classic Lacrosse tournament took over the city last weekend, as part of what’s expected to be a busy season for the sport.

Several teams from across the province came to the Kinsmen Arena for the annual tournament which has been going on since the early 2000s.

President of the Lacrosse Association, Javan Bexson said some of the local teams did very well.

“The two Shellbrook teams that play in Prince Albert, they were in the bronze medal game, competing against each other, so that was great to see them find a lot of success,” he said, adding that two U13 teams were in their respective finals along with a U15 club. “The P.A. team won the U15 against Lloydminster.”

Bexson said the fan support was so big, many didn’t leave the arena as they wanted to see the Outlaws Senior B team clash with Regina.

The Outlaws ultimately won that game 12-6.

While the tournament has wrapped up, that’s just the beginning for many local lacrosse players. Bexson said many teams will be playing throughout June, with playoffs scheduled to start at the end of the month.

Meanwhile, other teams still have a busy summer ahead.

“The eight Predators teams: U13, U15, U17, they will be competing for the rest of the season,” Bexson said.

More on this year’s busy and exciting Lacrosse year can be found on the P.A. Lacrosse Association website.
