More details are being released with respect to a stabbing incident last Saturday afternoon on the St. Louis rodeo grounds.

RCMP have confirmed the victim was an 18-year-old man, who sustained serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

While initially transported by Parkland Ambulance to hospital in Prince Albert, he was then air lifted by STARS to Saskatoon.

The youth who was arrested in connection to the incident, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The youth made his first court appearance in Melfort on Monday and was released on conditions.

In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the RCMP indicated they will not be releasing information confirming the identity of the accused.

Following the incident, paNOW was initially informed the victim was stabbed with a screwdriver.

However, a person identifying themselves as the victim, contacted paNOW and clarified they were stabbed five times with a steak knife.

The man, who has been released from hospital, also described the attack as random and vicious and added he has no connections to any gangs.

Family members of the victim also reached out and said the young man was at the rodeo with his girlfriend and his little sister and grew up in St. Louis.

β€œHe was enjoying a day off. He was stabbed with a steak knife five times including the upper left side of his chest and the serrated blade did significant damage,” they said.

The family members also confirmed the young man had surgery Sunday but has since returned home.

The incident Saturday happened as a large crowd gathered to watch the pony chariot and chuckwagon races.
