A 34-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after human remains were found in a burning house in the Town of Battleford.

The fire happened on Feb. 18; however, investigators didn’t find a body until Feb. 27. They were eventually able to identify the victim as 32-year-old Gregory Cope, who had been reported missing a few days after the blaze.

On May 17, RCMP arrested Travis Jean in Lloydminster and officially charged him with first-degree murder and arson with disregard for human life.

He’s scheduled to make his next court appearance on May 19 in North Battleford.
