A woman who has won professional wrestling championships all over the world, says she is looking forward to meeting fans in Prince Albert.

Tessa Blanchard is among the special invited talents performing in Canadian Wrestling Elite’s (CWE) latest tour that includes stops in Saskatoon Wednesday night at Legion Branch #63 and Prince Albert Thursday night at Carlton Park Hall. Having performed for much larger crowds, Blanchard told paNOW she also enjoys the smaller, more intimate setting.

“Whether I’m in front of 40,000 people at Madison Square Garden or I’m in front of 100 some people in a far more intimate setting, I am still going to give 110 per cent because that’s what the people deserve,” she said, adding the smaller venues also provide the added opportunity to meet and interact with the fans.

Blanchard explained it was actually her father, WWE Hall of Famer Tully Blanchard, who helped get her involved in the CWE tour. Growing up she noted she actually had no plans to be a wrestler, adding the passion didn’t come until around the same time as her father’s induction

“I just remember being around everyone on the main roster and like going backstage and being around that environment and then coming off the bus at the hall of fame and seeing all the fans cheering for the Four Horsemen and thinking God this is so cool,” she said.

Not long after, at the age of 18, Blanchard signed up for the Highspots wrestling school in Charlotte, North Carolina, and found herself training 6-7 days a week with the likes of some other well known wrestlers including Cedric Alexander, and Kaleb Konley.

“I was really, really bad at it but I loved it so I would travel all the time. God, I would drive 21 hours away and sleep in my car and then turn around and drive home “, she said, adding sometimes she would just show up to a show to help set up the the ring and just hope to land a spot on the show.

“I’ve always wanted to carry on my family name, but I wanted to create my own path at the same time,” Blanchard explained.

In addition to being the first female wrestler to win the Impact World Championship, Blanchard is also a former Impact Knockouts Champion. She’s also a former AAA Reina de Reinas Champion, and WOW World Champion.

When asked what championship stood out the most for her, Blanchard explained the one thing she’s always tried to do was make history in a way that was unique to her, unique to her family and unique to the business.

“So winning the [Impact] world championship was definitely a cool moment for me,” she said, adding though being the first American to win the AAA women’s championship was also very special.

However Blanchard also noted she’s had some matches that have meant more to her than winning a championship, and proceeded to name one of her favourite opponents Gail Kim.

“That match meant so much to me I would not care if there was a championship involved or not,” she said.

With respect to future dream opponents, Blanchard tossed out a few well known names including Natalya Neidhart, Red Velvet, Rhea Ripley, Biana Belair, and Mercedes Moné (Sasha Banks).

“There’s such great women out there right now and women that can really get out there and go so I would love to test myself against some of them,” she explained.

Another well known hall of famer, not to mention 16 time world champion, Ric Flair has made public comments on a number of occasions suggesting his daughter Charlotte Flair and Blanchard should square off in the ring. The match would seem fitting given the connections to the Four Horsemen stable. Blanchard acknowledged she and Charlotte are friends.

“We talk periodically here and there and you know, never say never. I guess that’s all I can really say,” she said.

The Prince Albert show Thursday night will be at Carlton Park Hall on Dunn Drive. Tickets are still available online or at Colette Portamedic Services on Marquis Road.

Also featured on the stacked card are Ring Of Honor Legend “The Zombie Princess” Jimmy Jacobs, as well as CWE’s current Champion “The Zombie Killer” Mentallo.

Following their show in Prince Albert, CWE will head down the road to Yorkton, Regina and Estevan.
