May 3, 2023 | 2:06 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP are advising there will be an increased police presence at Montreal Lake Cree Nation, for an undetermined amount of time, following a man’s death on Tuesday.

The 50-year old man, who has been identified as Keith Stewart, was found lying on a road.

RCMP confirmed they were initially called to the reserve at approximately 12:40 a.m. Stewart was receiving medical assistance when officers arrived, but was soon after declared deceased on scene.

“Preliminary information indicates the circumstances of the individual’s death are suspicious. As a result, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes have taken carriage of the ongoing investigation,” a statement from the RCMP said.

The RCMP also said Stewart’s family has been notified and Victim Services has been engaged to provide support.

“Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes appreciate the cooperation and patience from residents in the community as police continue to conduct a thorough investigation,” they said.

Anyone with information about Stewart’s death is asked to call their local police detachment.
