RCMP in Maidstone have seized a large quantity of drugs, after a traffic stop Friday evening on Highway 16, near Maidstone.

Police seized 3.3 kilograms of fentanyl, seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, and one kilogram of cocaine.

Police say it started when they did a roadside stop, to check for licence, registration and sobriety on Highway 16.

In a news release RCMP say officers became suspicious the occupants had illegal drugs. They were detained for a drug investigation, and then officers discovered the passenger was breaching his release conditions on a previous charge.

So the passenger was placed under arrest, and the vehicle was searched.

That’s when RCMP found the drugs.

RCMP say the driver, 20-year-old Gurpreet Singh, faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The passenger, 21-year-old Prince Sharma, is facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking, along with three counts of violating his release conditions.

Both men appeared in Lloydminster Provincial Court on Monday April 24, and have been remanded in custody until their next appearance on May 18.
