Chamber of Commerce puts out call for nominations for new board members

With six vacancies on its Board up for election, the Prince Albert and District Chamber of Commerce has put out the official call for nominations to fill those vacancies.

Members can nominate someone or put their name forward and to do so they can visit the Chamber website and fill out the information under the nomination tab.

“The nomination committee will review it and make sure they’re eligible to let their name stand,” said Chamber CEO Patty Hughes. “Of course, you have to be a current member to be part of the board.”

Prospective board members would be elected to a two-year term during which they would attend monthly board meetings. The Chamber Chamber has a board of 14 people including a Past Chair, Chair, 1st Vice Chair and a 2nd Vice Chair plus 10 Directors.

“There’s committee work as well in regards to the Prince Albert Chamber,” Hughes said. “We have about four or five different committees and they would be responsible for sitting on at least one of those.”

From restaurants to school districts to financial sector businesses to retail stores, the Chamber has a good mix of businesses represented on the board at the moment. That’s something they’d like to see continue with this latest round of nominations.

“We like to make sure that our Board of Directors has a good representation of what our business community is,” said Hughes. “It’s diverse, it’s inclusive, and it represents a good idea of what composes our business community.”

That said, there are a couple of types of businesses Hughes is hoping to see represented on the Board again, now that Board positions are opening up.

Due to some departures, there are industries and skillsets that the board now doesn’t have which they’d like to maintain going forward.

“Right now we have a board member who has termed out that was in construction,” said Hughes. “That’s definitely one area we are looking (for) as well as non-profit. We find these are two areas of great importance within our community and we need that representation there.”

If there are more candidates than available positions, the Chamber will put the nominations to an email-based vote for members.

Nominations close on May 31. After the committee has confirmed the nominations, they’ll send an email to members with a list of candidates and information about them.
