Winner declared in battle of the food banks
It may have been a friendly competition between three area food banks but the real winners were those the agencies serve as more than $41,000 worth of food was collected during a recent Food Wars challenge.
The Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre (BRFC) teamed up with Meadow Lake’s Door of Hope campaign and challenged the Prince Albert Food Bank to see which community could raise the most food donations during the Every Plate Full awareness campaign which ran across Canada in May.
In the end, Prince Albert collected over $22,900 worth of food while Meadow Lake and Battlefords agencies raised more than $18,300.
“It was a lot of fun and it may be something we do again in the future,” said Erin Katerynych, BRFC executive director. “It was a tremendous amount of work but this will go a long way to help restock our shelves for the upcoming summer months in both Meadow Lake and here (Battlefords).”
