City geared up to host HOOPLA provincial basketball tournament

Prince Albert gymnasiums will be busy this weekend as the city welcomes 48 different basketball teams from across the province for the provincial HOOPLA tournament.

Of course, those 48 teams are not competing against each other for the same trophy, rather they are split into ten different divisions spanning from 1-5A girls and 1-5A boys. Included in those teams are both Carlton and St. Mary boys and girls teams who are competing in the 5A category. Many other local communities have also qualified for the tournament in their respective division having done well at regionals last weekend.

Both Carlton and St. Mary boys and girls teams begin their trek to the top of the high school basketball mountain tonight. See below the schedule for both the Crusaders and Marauders for Thursday:

The tournament is a one-and-done style, meaning if Carlton or St. Mary lose once then they are out of provincial final contention. However, if they win their game Thursday then fall on Friday, they will have the chance to capture provincial bronze.
