Prince Albert bowlers rollin’ on to Nationals

Five bowlers from Prince Albert are on the fast lane to Nationals.

Christa Mulhall, Cora-lee White-Furi, Sean Dieno, Michael Pelechaty and Dallas Vandale, have all qualified for the respective men’s and women’s provincial teams that will compete in June at the Master’s Tournament in St. John’s.

Christa Mulhall has been to nationals twice, once as a member of the ladies’ team, and once as a singles competitor.

“Making it to Newfoundland for Nationals has been on my bucket list for years and it’s just nice to be able to bowl with people we don’t normally get to bowl with,” she said.

The provincial qualifying tournaments, which were held in Humboldt and Regina, ran over two weekends and consisted of eight games over the course of four days. The top three days for each bowler were used, and six bowlers from each division moved on.

On the men’s side, Michael Pelechaty finished fourth. This year marks his first year being eligible to try out for the team and when speaking with paNOW, acknowledged the competition was really tough.

“Bowling in an adult tournament like this is special to me because I’m competing against people who were my role models through my youth career, they helped me and coached me through my youth so being able to compete against them is a great feeling,” he said.

Pelechaty’s best single-day score came on the final day when he scored 2,215.

“I’m super excited to represent Saskatchewan and start all of the fundraising for the week in Newfoundland. All of the Prince Albert people who made the teams are great bowlers and definitely deserve their spot on the team,” he said.

The 2023 Nationals run from June 29 – July 4. The Prince Albert team plans to fly out on June 27.
