Canora’s a long way from Toronto, but Mounties in the Saskatchewan town nabbed a man who was wanted in the Ontario capital region.

According to a release from Peel Regional Police, a 50-year-old man was suspected of launching fireworks at three Peel Regional Police divisions on the evening of March 12. Then, on Thursday, he allegedly contacted three of that police service’s divisions and uttered threats.

Peel Regional Police contacted the Saskatchewan Enforcement Response Team and asked for its help in locating the man.

On Friday, Yorkton’s Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team saw a vehicle without a licence plate parked at a motel in Canora. The Mounties found the man at the motel and told him he was under arrest, but he locked himself in a motel room. He then tried to run, but was arrested.

The RCMP executed a search warrant on the motel room and vehicle and found the vehicle’s licence plate as well as 28 others from Saskatchewan and Ontario.

The man is being returned to Peel Regional Police to face three counts each of mischief and uttering threats, and one count of flight from police.
