Both St. Mary and Carlton High Schools were well represented this past weekend at the High School Provincial Wrestling championship.

The competition was held at Regina’s O’Neill High School.

From St. Mary, both Bryn Cooper and Sarah Murphy won gold.

Following a bye, and two straight wins, Cooper faced a wrestler from Weyburn in the final and gained the pin at the 4:28 mark.

Murphy, a Grade 10 student, is new to the sport but her dedication to the gym paid off in a big way.

Dominant in all four of her matches, Murphy represents the school’s first female wrestler to ever win a provincial gold medal in their first year.

Also winning medals were Denaya Neudorf and Nathan Kowal (silver).

As a school, St. Mary finished fourth for 5A girls and tied for third for 5A boys with Campbell.

Carlton Comprehensive finished eighth and 14th respectively.

Landon Mudjar won gold in the 90kg weight class. After three straight 10-0 victories, Mudjar pinned his final opponent at 3:42.

Noah Remy won silver in her weight class. Following three straight wins by pin, Remy lost in the final to a wrestler from Aden Bowman.
