Dec 31, 2022 | 4:00 PM

We have reached the midway mark for minor hockey in Prince Albert and with that, paNOW is taking a look at how each team faired in the first half of their seasons.

Prince Albert Mintos

The Mintos got off on the right foot to start the season in 2022, winning three straight to kick the new season off with wins against Swift Current and Moose Jaw. But things quickly took a sharp turn for the worst when the club lost three in a row right after to put the back at 3-3.

Since then, the Mintos haven’t been able to create separation from the 0.500 mark, with no more than one or two games in either the wins or losses column. Going into 2023, the Green and Gold sit in seventh place in the standings with 25 points, and a record of 12-12-1-0.

For the players, Logan Pickford leads the club in the points department with 22 (12G, 10A) so far while Konnor Watson sits in a close second with 20 (11G, 9A), and Abinet Klassen is behind him with 16 points (7G, 9A).

The Mintos get back to work on January 7 when the visit they Warriors in Moose Jaw.

Prince Albert Northern Bears

The Bears struggled early on in the 2022-23 season, beginning the campaign with a five-game losing streak before picking up win number one on the road against Weyburn. The struggle continued into November where they went on a six-game skid which was eventually snapped in Notre Dame during a 4-2 win on the road. Thus far, December was the best month for the Bears finishing with three wins and one loss, which includes victories against Weyburn, Swift Current and a shootout win in Notre Dame.

Sasha Malenfant heads into the new year leading PA in points with 14 (6G, 8A) while Julia Cey is just one point behind her at 13 (8G, 5A). It’s a tie for third most in points with Jasmine Kohl and Tristyn Endicott both sitting at 12 each.

Heading into 2023, the Bears sit in fifth place in the standings with a 5-13-1-0 record. PA will continue their campaign on Jan. 7 when they play host to the Weyburn Richardson Pioneer Gold Wings for a two-game weekend set.

Prince Albert Beachcomber Foxes 1/2

Both of the Foxes teams this year are each doing there own thing, with one team being near the top and the other on the opposite end.

The Foxes 1 are currently sitting in third place in the North East standings entering the second half of the season with a record of 5-2-5-0 (W-L-T-OTW). PA kicked of their campaign going undefeated through six games (3-0-3-0) before suffering their first loss against the Saskatoon Comet Inferno. Since then however, the Foxes 1 have been keeping a steady pace through the season and will look to build on it going into the new year.

Jordyn Schrader currently leads the team in the offensive end by a wide margin with 18 points (14G, 4A) while the next player, rookie Emmah Rindfliesch, has eight points (4G, 4A) going into the back half.

As for the Foxes 2, they near the bottom of the North East standings with a 2-7-4-0 record. Despite the first half of the season however, things have trending in the opposite direction for the team as of late.
