P.A. council set to discuss funding economic development manager, future of PAREDA at next meeting

Dec 12, 2022 | 11:52 AM

The City of Prince Albert is looking to hire a new economic development manager with funding usually allocated to the Prince Albert Regional Economic Development Alliance (PAREDA).

P.A.’s city council meets on Monday where they’ll discuss PAREDA’s future as the organization has been unable to find a new CEO since this past summer.

Discussions have already taken place between the City of P.A. and the other communities included in the alliance, the R.M. of Prince Albert, the Town of Shellbrook, Peter Ballantyne, Sturgeon Lake, and the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan, about moving away from day-to-day operations, financial, and administrative activities.

PAREDA would still be able to function, but P.A.’s financial commitments would instead be used on an economic development manager. This would amount to $105,000 a year.

P.A.’s council will also look to approve changes to the Snow and Ice Control Policy. This includes allowing for one-third of all sidewalks to be used as storage for snow and that windrows are avoided in all school zones.

Meanwhile, P.A.’s 2023 budget will be up for final approval.

Council spent several days in November going through next year’s finances for every department, organization, and project across the city.

The budget is currently proposed to be around $1.6 million more than last year’s.

Council’s meeting is scheduled to start at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, 2022.
