PA’s Howe reflects on 100th career WHL game in hometown arena

It’s been a season of milestones for Prince Albert’s Tanner Howe.

The Regina Pats forward first broke the 100-point mark earlier this year and now just recently played in his 100th career WHL game last night against the Raiders.

When asked about what it was like to play his 100th game in his hometown, he said it couldn’t have drawn it up any better.

“It means a lot to me,” he said. “Obviously I have a lot of family out here and to see them come out and support me like that, it’s pretty special. And to get my 100th game here, it means a lot.”

The 2006-born speedster also hit the 100-point mark less than two weeks ago while on their BC road trip. Howe reached the achievement on Nov. 28 in Victoria when he exploded for six points (4G, 2A) in a 9-5 beatdown of the Royals.

The former PA Minto added that playing in the Art Hauser Centre as a part of the opposing team is a bit odd since he’s always been playing for the good guys.

“I’ve been playing (at the Hauser) my whole life,” he said. “Growing up here and playing against (the Raiders) is a little weird. Watching the Raiders growing up and now playing against them, it’s pretty fun. Good rivalry we have.”

The future NHL draft pick also said that his experience on the Mintos helped him make the transfer from U18 to junior hockey quite easily.

“I learned a lot from the Mintos,” he said. “Learning how to play with speed, playing quick is a huge part of playing in the WHL and that helps a lot.

So far this season, Howe has posted 18 goals and 23 assists in 28 games this season. He’s also been playing alongside the projected first-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, Connor Bedard, where the two linemates have posted a combined 105 points so far this season.
