Two people charged after hours-long incident in Montreal Lake

One man is facing over 20 charges after an incident on Montreal Lake Cree Nation earlier this week.

On Monday, RCMP was called to a home on the First Nation after receiving a report of unwanted people inside the home.

Police later found out a man and woman were inside, both on court-ordered conditions not to be in the community. The woman was also wanted on a warrant for possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking.

The woman eventually left the home after police arrived, but the man was still inside and officers heard a gunshot from inside.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team was called to assist and attempted to have the man exit the home for several hours. He was seen with a firearm and a knife in his possession.

At about 10 p.m., the man came out of the home and assaulted an officer attempting to disarm them while he was being arrested. The officer was not seriously injured.

William Henderson, 34, of Montreal Lake now faces 24 charges including assault on an officer, possessing a weapon for a dangerous person, and possession of a dangerous and prohibited weapon.

He will appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Lacey Bird, 33, of Montreal Lake has been charged with failure to comply with a release order.

She was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP and is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Friday.
