Canadian Olympic Committee sees ‘ample time’ for 2030 bid as BC cities discuss doubts

VANCOUVER — The Canadian Olympic Committee says the February deadline for its bid to host the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in British Columbia gives “ample time for funding partners to complete cost-benefit analyses of the 2030 project.”

This comes as Whistler and Vancouver city councils plan to discuss reports this week highlighting the seven-month timeline and lack of financial details related to the bid proposal.

Tricia Smith, the president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, says in a statement that the organization appreciates the concerns that have been raised, but experience gained from the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and Whistler will help provide a blueprint for organizers.

Smith says support from all partners is critical to the success of the project and the committee is pleased to have garnered “five crucial endorsements” so far.
