Muskoday shooting incident proceeds to trial

Jul 14, 2022 | 5:00 PM

The circumstances surrounding an incident on the Muskoday First Nation, where a man was shot multiple times and robbed, will be discussed in greater detail during a trial this November at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Brandon Scott Bear, 25, and Patrick Bear, 44, face a number of charges including attempted murder, robbery and forcible confinement in connection to the incident that happened last December.

Not guilty pleas were entered on June 28 and the trial has since been scheduled for Nov. 4. The proceedings will start at 9:30 a.m.

According to court records obtained by paNOW, the victim was shot in the head and the abdomen during a robbery and kidnapping. The suspects made off with the man’s truck, as well as cash and a cell phone.

Prince Albert RCMP were called to the First Nation after receiving reports of an assault. Police believe the man had been shot multiple times at different locations on the First Nation over the course of several hours.

The victim was eventually able to leave the place where he was being held and seek assistance from a member of the public who drove him to a safe location and emergency services were called.
