With COVID-19 sidelining the event the past two years, this year’s Prince Albert Arts Hall of Fame induction gala was well overdue.

This year, several new inductees were added to the Hall of Fame representing the classes of 2020 and 2021.

The inductee for 2020 in the Performing Arts category was the Barveenok Ukrainian Dance Club. Kayleigh Skomorowski, current chair of the board of directors, accepted the reward on behalf of an organization that has been a part of the city since 1978.

Its dance programs and events have been a constant reinstallation of Ukrainian cultural tradition in the city, and an outlet for exercise, friendship, and teamwork for many youths throughout its history.

The first inductee for 2021 was awarded posthumously. Tia Furstenberg from the Mann Art Gallery spoke on behalf of nominator Jesse Campbell and shared the life and history of Andrée Felley-Martinson, inducted into the Visual Artist category.

Felley-Martinson, a well-known visual artist in the community, passed away in 2019.

The honour was accepted by Marcus Miller and Lana Wilson of the Mann Art Gallery, as friends and family of Andrée wiped tears from their eyes in remembering Andrée.

Under the Builder of the Arts category, the Hall of Fame welcomed 2021 inductee Sheryl Kimbley. She was introduced by her older brother Richard Ahenakew.

Kimbley is the producer of Voices of the North and has been active in the local music scene for years.

Last year when she was announced as one of the 2021 inductees, she said she was privileged to be honoured.

“Prince Albert is my home and to be placed into the Hall of Fame for something that I absolutely love doing is very humbling.”

The Hall of Fame Gala was originally scheduled to take place in February but was postponed to June.

Next year’s induction ceremony will also be a double-induction with the class of 2022 and 2023 being honoured. The ceremony will take place in September 2023.
