Ahenakew gets hand raised at inaugural Will Skopyk memorial, named boxer of the night
The main event of Saturday night’s Will Skopyk Memorial boxing event felt very much like a storybook ending or a Rocky movie.
Cole Ahenakew, who once trained with Skopyk and considered him a close friend, defeated Edmonton’s Mannu Ahlawat by unanimous decision. Despite getting knocked down early in the fight, Ahenakew rose back to his feet, and rallied to victory
In addition to being named best bout of the night, Ahenakew was also presented with the best boxer of the night trophy.
The event, which featured six real bouts and four exhibitions, was held at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre. Fighters from Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba competed and over 200 tickets were sold.
