Gay Holmen
May 19, 1948 ~ April 11, 2022
Gay Ruby Marie Holmen went to be with her Lord on April 11, 2022 with her family by her side at the age of 73 years.
Gay was born on May 19, 1948, at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. She was raised in Choiceland, SK, and attended St. Mary Church where many fond memories were made at Catechism in the summer and Tea and Bake Sale fundraisers. Baking for the family was one of her favourite past times every Christmas.
Gay loved being with her younger siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, taking them to Korol’s movie theatre in Choiceland on Saturday nights.
Gay graduated from William Mason High School in 1966. She went to Saskatoon Business College and got a job at Ward Johnson Electric in Prince Albert, SK until 1981, when she married her soul mate, Ken Holmen. Later on, she worked as a hotel housekeeper, a babysitter, a personal caregiver, and lastly cleaning at First Baptist Church and St. David’s Anglican Church where they made many close friends. Many good friends were also made at the Embassy Church in Prince Albert, SK where they worshipped.
Gay and Ken moved to an acreage in the Davis area where they flourished amongst nature, and they harvested a garden every year. They always had time to spend birthdays and holiday weekends at home in Choiceland, SK with the family, filling the house with laughter, setting an example of positivity, faith and love for all of us.
Left to cherish Gay’s memory is her husband of 40 years, Ken Holmen; sisters, Jan (Kim) Rothwell and Tracy Baerwald; brother, Del (Lois) Baerwald; nephews, Tyler and Kyle Rothwell; grand-nephew, Emmet Brand; in-laws, Vern and Verlie Holmen, Carol and Wayne Selander, Sonja Erickson, Don and Linda Patton; her aunts, uncles, cousins, as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Gay was predeceased by her parents, Joy and Harold Baerwald; nephew, Kent Rothwell; special grandma, Ruby Schmidt; mother-in-law, Ella Gipman; brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Elva Holmen; and brother in-law, Jim Erickson.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 10, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Embassy Church, 888 Central Ave, Prince Albert Saskatchewan. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306) 922-4729.
