New Adventure Park gets closer to opening

May 24, 2022 | 5:00 PM

A new attraction at Prince Albert’s Little Red River Park will soon start taking shape.

Construction will officially start this week on the Rotary Adventure Park and accompanying zip lines. Keith Fonstad, president of the Prince Albert Rotary Club, was among those in attendance for Tuesday’s ground breaking ceremony.

“It’s been an almost four or five year process when we started figuring out what our centennial project could be and doing the research; making a decision and then getting started and then having to take a pause for a pandemic,” he said.

The park project will include zip lines, swings, and two additional play structures. There will also be added picnic sites, benches, and a shelter along with expanded walking trails to provide activities from toddlers to seniors.

“There’s not a lot of options in Prince Albert and we have such a natural playground here with the park,” Fonstad said.

The project is being funded in part by the Jenkins Family Foundation. Noting a new spray park opening up in Crescent Heights at the end of June, as well as the openings this summer of a basketball court/skate park in the West Flat, and a new outdoor gym at the Alfred Jenkins Centre, Malcolm Jenkins said it’s an exciting time for the city.

“Nobody else in this country can say we’ve got way more stuff than Prince Albert. Not anymore. If we’re not number one, we’re in the top 10,” he said.

Canadian Recreation Solutions will be on site this week at Little Red to start assembling the park. Barring any weather or construction delays, the park should be ready in July.
