Philanthropist Jenkins helps expand Rotary Adventure Park

Malcolm Jenkin’s name is synonymous with kindness and generosity. The local owner of the Canadian Tire in Prince Albert makes countless contributions to community organizations, events, and facilities. This weekend, he added another benefactor to that list– the Rotary Adventure Park.

Jenkins partnered with the Rotary Club to expand the planned park. The expansion will include five ziplines, swings, and two additional play structures. Designs and development plans are being finalized and construction is expected to start in the spring of 2022. The Rotary Adventure Park will be built within Little Red River Park and will be focused on youth ages 8 to 13 and offer a higher level of intensity and challenge than other playgrounds in the city.

A climbing centre, parkour-style circuit area, and swings will accompany the ziplines, additional swings, and play structures being funded by Jenkins. There will also be added picnic sites, benches, and a shelter along with expanded walking trails to provide activities from toddlers to seniors.

“Getting involved in the Rotary Adventure Park was an easy decision. The concept to provide an active outdoor opportunity for older youth of Prince Albert is a natural extension of the park by the Alfred Jenkins Field House. Combining the scenic setting of the Little Rid River Park with a whole-family experience concept was also attractive and consistent with other previously supported projects,” said Jenkins.

Earlier this week, the philanthropist donated $300,000 to the Party City Outdoor Gym located near the Alfred Jenkins Field House.

“We are very excited to announce the partnership with Malcolm Jenkins and Canadian Tire for an expansion of the Rotary Adventure Park. The additional structures and play areas will double the footprint of the play area as well as increase the capacity to have more than 150 youth engaged comfortably and safely in outdoor play at one time,” said Keith Fonstad, president of the Rotary Club of Prince Albert.

With the announcement, the proposed $1,200,000 project will be 89 per cent funded.
