Prince Albert’s Deb Honch has taken home the hardware for the top realtor in the province.

Honch, who is a realtor at Heart and Home Property Specialists brokered by Coldwell Banker, won Saskatchewan’s Realtor of the Year.

She explained to paNOW it has all been overwhelming for her.

“To be honest it was a huge surprise, but of course just extremely honoured and just thankful to everyone that was involved in getting me there,” she said.

For 10 years Honch has been in the realty industry and said she has enjoyed her time and it has been an exciting and rewarding experience.

To become Saskatchewan’s Realtor of the Year you do have to be nominated and once there is enough nominees the board of directors will vote on who will win the award. The realtors that are nominated for this award do not necessarily have the most sales out of anyone in the province but are heavily involved in the industry and give back to the community.

“It is just such an incredibly rewarding industry just helping folks to find their forever homes or to move on to their next home selling, buying. It is such an industry that you’re able to have a close relationship with the folks you’re working with and it’s a privilege and an honour to help folks kind of move where they want to get to,” she added.

Despite Honch being honoured to win the award, she had no idea she was even nominated until the evening of the awards banquet in Regina.

Honch works with Brooke Wozniak at Heart and Home and Honch explained she was aware Wozniak was being nominated a few weeks beforehand and was asked to make sure she could get Wozniak down to Regina for the banquet. Once they arrived to the event Honch had no idea she was in for a surprise.

“I was a little bit surprised to see my broker on the screen talking about somebody who had been nominated for an award and the next thing I know I saw Brooke’s face on the video as well and then realized I had been tricked,” Honch laughed adding she will be getting Wozniak back one day. “When my name was called I was thoroughly confused and, of course, honoured.”

The industry has been very busy the last few years, she said, and they have been unable to get together with her brokerage throughout the pandemic. She is grateful to everyone that was involved in the nomination and the response and encouragement from friends, family and coworkers.
