Prince Albert residents are getting two opportunities at a local event to help people in Ukraine.

A group of residents and the Veselka Prince Albert & District Ukrainian Cultural & Heritage Club is hosting a cultural supper and silent auction on Saturday, Mar. 26 at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.

For $40, people can get a full Ukrainian meal, which will include perogies and cabbage rolls, along with dessert and a drink.

Co-organizer Taras Kachkowski told paNOW they originally planned to sell 200 tickets for the supper, however, they sold out very quickly.

“It definitely warms the heart and I’m very thankful for the community’s reaction.”

The chefs are planning to make between 50 and 100 more meals. If all the extra meals are sold, the supper will raise $12,000.

These funds will be given to the Come Back Alive Foundation which supports Ukrainian forces by providing protective and non-lethal equipment.

As for the silent auction, Kachkowski said they’re hoping to raise a few thousand dollars. He added they received so many donations that they’re considering holding a second auction.

“The people of Prince Albert have really shown that they want to help, that they want to contribute in some small way.”

The funds from the auction will be given to Canada-Ukraine Foundation which is currently undergoing humanitarian efforts for the war-torn country.

Doors will open at 4 p.m. with meals being served at 4:30 p.m. People can either eat at the church’s hall or simply pick it up. Those who buy a ticket at the door must pay with cash.
