Too Much Snow

P.A. tow truck operator hoping this winter becomes ‘learning experience’ for snow clearing

This winter has been one of the toughest in a long time for the city of Prince Albert, at least on the roads.

That’s according to Danny Goodwin, the owner of Gateway North Towing, who told paNOW the amount of snow the community has received has caused nothing but problems.

This includes snow ruts and snow piles, specifically, around intersections.

“There are little cars coming up to turn on the highway, I was fortunate enough to see them approach the intersection but once they get there I can’t see them, and they can’t see me,” Goodwin said.

He added city crews and private contractors have done the best job they can when dealing with the amount of snow the city has received.

Goodwin noted he can’t remember the last time the city has received this much snow.

“All of us are getting up there in age and we’re all trying to figure out when the last time was we’d seen this much snow and it’s got to be decades because we can’t even put a date on it.”

According to the city, the last time P.A. experienced this amount of snow was around 30 years ago.

Meanwhile, Goodwin is hoping to see at least one good thing come from the situation.

In his opinion, this winter should be considered a “learning experience” and everyone should sit down and develop a plan to ensure similar issues don’t pop up again.

“I think just getting more prepared and coming up with some action plans… that will carry us forward and we’ll be in a better situation the next time this happens.”
