Roughriders re-sign receiver/special-teamer Harty

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have re-signed yet another receiver who could have become a CFL free agent next month.

The Roughriders announced Thursday they had signed Calgary product Jake Harty to a contract extension. The 31-year-old joins Shaq Evans, Kyran Moore, Justin McInnis and Paul McRoberts on the list of receivers who have reupped with Saskatchewan this off-season.

Receivers Mitch Picton, Duke Williams and Jordan Williams-Lambert still are listed on the Roughriders’ list of potential free agents. Brayden Lenius previously was released so he could sign an NFL contract.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Harty appeared in 14 regular-season games and two playoff games for Saskatchewan in 2021 and led the team with 10 special-teams tackles. He also caught one pass for five yards.

Harty initially signed with the Roughriders in 2018. Before that, the former University of Calgary Dinos star played in 34 regular-season games over three seasons with the Ottawa Redblacks, catching 36 passes for 307 yards and one touchdown.

Later Thursday, the Roughriders announced they had signed American defensive back Amari Henderson.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound product of Wake Forest University signed with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020 as an undrafted free agent and spent time on their practice roster. In 2021, Henderson signed with the Minnesota Vikings and played in one pre-season game.

Henderson left Wake Forest ranked fourth in school history with 48 passes defended, comprising 41 pass breakups and seven interceptions.
