Saskatchewan crop commissions switch to virtual format meetings this week

Jan 10, 2022 | 10:03 AM

MELFORT, Sask. — Western Canadian Crop Production Show opens at noon today in Saskatoon.

In conjunction with the event several commodity groups have opted to hold their annual meetings in conjunction with the show.

However, based on new recommendations from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and following the guidance of Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Officer suggesting residents refrain from gathering outside of the home, all meetings and market outlooks will now be held online.

The original plan was to have hybrid sessions with the option of attending in person or online. But, late last week, all development commissions decided to switch formats.

Annual general meetings for the Saskatchewan Canary Seed Development Commission began at 8:30 this morning. The SaskWheat meeting runs from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Chuck Penner with Leftfield Commodity Research will present the wheat market outlook starting at 12:30 p.m. After a short break Penner will deliver the pulse market outlook at 1:45 p.m.

The Saskatchewan Pulse Growers will hold their annual general meeting at 3:00 p.m.

Tomorrow, SaskFlax, SaskBarley and SaskCanola will have their annual meetings. Marlene Boersch with Mercantile Consulting Ventures will give a market outlook for flax and canola.

SaskOats, Winter Cereals and Saskatchewan Forage Seed Commission will meet on Wednesday.

SaskSeed and SaskMustard commissions will hold their online meetings on Thursday.
