Teenage girl, charged after fatal hit-and-run, enters guilty plea
A teenage girl who fled from the scene after a pedestrian was struck and killed along Highway 11, has accepted responsibility for her actions.
Accompanied by family members, the girl who can’t be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. A guilty plea was entered to failing to stop after an accident causing death.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for July 6. This will allow time for completion of a report that will canvass the girl’s personal background and ultimately assist the judge in making a decision. As per discussions heard in court, it’s unclear if the sentence will be contested or if there will be a joint submission.
On May 20, 2025, shortly after 2 a.m., a man was struck and killed along the southbound lanes of Highway 11 near MacDowall. The circumstances have not yet been disclosed, nor have the name and age of the deceased. RCMP only said he was not a Canadian citizen.
