Province reports more than 295K flu shots, over 20K in North Central

The provincial government says more than 295,000 Saskatchewan residents have received their flu shots so far this year.

Since the campaign started in October, about 295,165 flu shots have been administered by public health, First Nations, pharmacists, physicians and other providers.

“The flu vaccine is a safe, effective and simple way to prevent illness in yourself and others,” Health Minister Paul Merriman said in a media release.

“(It’s) a simple way to keep your loved ones healthy. I want to thank everyone who has taken the time out of their busy lives to get their annual flu shot, and remind those who haven’t they can still do so.”

Of those 295,000 shots, the province said 20,360 doses were given in the North Central region as of Dec. 4.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s online appointment booking system has accounted for 89 per cent of flu shot appointments made at SHA locations. Appointments also can be booked by calling 1-833-727-5829.

As well, 165,000 flu shots have been delivered at 400 pharmacies around the province. A list of pharmacies offering flu shots can be seen here.

All Saskatchewan residents aged six months and up can get a free influenza vaccine.
