Enjoying a tasty treat for a good cause

The perfect time is here to ask mom or dad for a blizzard at Dairy Queen.

All locations across the province are donating all their sales on Oct. 28 from their trademarked ice cream snack to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation as part of the annual Miracle Treat Day.

Trent Kachur, owner of Prince Albert’s Dairy Queen, told paNOW the day is simply a win-win.

“Our fans enjoy the blizzards…we donate a little money.”

The funds raised will help children in Saskatchewan get the best pediatric care possible.

Since 1984, Miracle Treat Day has raised around $44 million across the country.

Kachur didn’t know how much his location has been able to collect over the years.

He did note they usually average between $10,000 and $12,000 a year through blizzard sales, people donating directly to the foundation, and other initiatives.

“We’ve raised some good dollars over the years, and I shouldn’t say we, the city of Prince Albert has raised some good dollars over the years.”

Despite raising funds for a good cause, Kachur said this year feels bittersweet as they decided to close off their dining area due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Kids are looking over the menu for their favourite blizzards that they want, but this is a different time.”

Those who want a blizzard, or just want to donate to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, can use the P.A. Dairy Queen’s drive-thru until 11 p.m. on Thursday.
