North Battleford’s Grindheim wins mixed curling provincials in Prince Albert

North Battleford’s Dean Grindheim, Sherry Just, Cole Tenetuik, and Alison Ingram will represent Saskatchewan at the 2021 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Canmore, Nov. 7-15.

The Grindheim rink defeated Regina’s Ben Gamble in the finals 6-3 at the Mont St. Joseph Foundation CurlSask 2021 Provincial Mixed Championships at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Centre on Sunday.

Grindheim stole one in the second end to get an early advantage. After Gamble registered with a two-spot in the fourth end, Grindheim responded with a deuce of his own in the fifth. After Gamble was forced to one in the sixth, Grindheim regained the lead in the seventh by scoring two and stole another in the eighth round to seal the game and the tournament.

Prince Albert’s showings

Brad Bibby’s team of Kara Thevenot, Steve Thevenot, and Patricia Bibby got to the C Event Finals, falling to the eventual champions in Grindheim 7-3 on Saturday night. Bibby defeated Grindheim earlier in the tournament in the B Event 7-6, before eventually losing in the B Event Finals to Gamble 5-4.

Also from Prince Albert was Jordon Henry’s team, who lost all three of their matches they played, 9-6 against Grindheim, 9-7 against Gamble, and 6-2 against Regina’s Jason Ackerman.
