Sale pending for Mary Nisbet campground property

After being on the market for the better part of seven years, the site known as Mary Nisbet campground could be under new ownership by December.

Alberta based Prairie North Construction has approached the Rural Municipality (RM) of Buckland to have the land re-zoned for industrial use. The request was approved during Tuesday’s council meeting. Company President Craig Robertson, who was born and raised in Prince Albert, told paNOW their interest in the area was based on the current activity happening across Northern Saskatchewan, citing recent announcements made with respect to forestry and mining.

“I think Prince Albert is going to get its just due,” he said.

According to its website, Prairie North has been in business for 18 years and has been involved in a number of projects across Alberta including residential/commercial, road building, and lagoon construction. While the company does have other locations in Saskatchewan, Robertson said the goal is to have the main operations at the site north of Prince Albert.

“We plan on becoming a serious player in Saskatchewan,” he said.

The property was once owned by the City of Prince Albert, but has been in private hands for 10 years. Prairie North plans to use roughly 10 acres, and the remaining space would be sub-divided and sold off to other potential industrial partners.

While the re-zoning has been approved, a number of other steps have to be met before the sale is final including sub-division approval from the province. If all goes according to plan, Robertson aims to have the sale finalized by mid-November and begin moving dirt soon after.
