It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving matriarch, Patricia Wilma Baird (nee Austin). Mom left this world on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the beautiful age of 94. Born on March 10th, 1927 to Bill and Martha Austin, she was the oldest of 4 children. She spent those 94 years as a caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was always interested in what everyone was doing with great pride and compassion. In earlier years, she was an accomplished curler, but most of all she was our dad’s partner and a great mother. Mom was always independent, strong, and a great role model. She worked outside of the home at Oliver’s IGA, Savard’s IGA, the Cooperative Clinic and finally her favourite, the Library at Carlton Comprehensive High School. She loved to knit for her family, travel and spend time with her friends. About 7 years ago she decided to move from her Waterford condo to Abbeyfield. Abbeyfield residents and staff became not only her friends, but her family. A big thank you to Judy, Evelyn, and Estelle as they helped her remain, for an extra few months, in the home she loved.
Surviving her passing are her son, Kirk (Linda) Baird- Scott Baird (Jody Funk), Kaitlyn, Hudson, Beran, Lemmy; Kirsten (Doug Bugo), Jaxon, Tanner; daughter, Kim (Andy) McDonald – Erin (Brad) Dyck, Alysha, Casandra; Jesse (Lisa) Barlow, Kasen, Kenzie, Prestyn, Owen; Tiffany (Ryan) Johnson, Bodie; Gavin Baird (Madeline Kennedy); Wynona (Josh) Cenaiko, Lincoln, Hendrix; Norman (Robbie) McDonald; daughter-in-law, Myrna Baird- Trevor (Colleen) Baird, Hope and Wyatt; brother, Evans (Bud) Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, Ivan, and her beloved son, Barton; parents, Martha & Bill Austin; in-laws, Grace & Jack Baird; sister and brother-in-law, Lois & Bob Lyons; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara (Babs) & Bud Tice; sister-in-law, Dora Austin; sister and brother in-law, Ruth & James Baird; and good friend, Al Atkinson.
Mom passed peacefully in the wonderful care of the Shellbrook Hospital. Much thanks to the nurses and staff at the Shellbrook Hospital. As well, many thanks to Homecare, who treated mom with great respect and care.
