Update 10:30 p.m.

RCMP issued an updated emergency alert Sunday night describing the suspect they believe to be involved in a shooting on James Smith Cree Nation.

Shawn Moostoos, 33, has brown eyes, brown hair and is just over six feet tall and 189 pounds. He has a scar on his left hand.

His mode of transportation is still unknown. Police once again encouraged the public to avoid the area, be wary of someone asking for a ride, and shelter in place if the suspect is in the area.

Melfort RCMP said in a statement that the shooting involves “multiple victims.”

The Government of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan RCMP issued an Emergency Alert before 9 p.m. Sunday following a shooting incident in the James Smith Cree Nation— about 60 kilometres east of Prince Albert.

The suspect is male and the mode of transportation is unknown at this time.

Police are asking the public to avoid the community. Residents are being told to stay away from windows and not to answer the door unless police provide direction to do so. If there is suspicious activity, shelter in place. The alert said not to leave a secure location.

Police are also advising the public to be wary of someone asking for a ride. Do not pick up hitchhikers.

No other details have been released, however, STARS Air Ambulance issued a tweet around 7:30 p.m. saying they had been dispatched to the area.

Heavy police presence will remain in the area as the situation unfolds.
